How a child's upbringing can cause them to commit murder
A child’s upbringing can influence the child to have violent tendencies and cause them to commit murder. Some of the children even murder their parents. An act, which was thought uncommon, is almost a daily event in the United States. Between 1977 and 1986, more than 300 parents were killed each year by their own children. (Heide)
Child Killers
There are three types of people who murder their parents. One is a severely abused child who is pushed past his or her limits Second is a child who is severely mentally ill. Third is a dangerously antisocial child. (Mones)
1) The most frequently seen type of offenders is the severely abused children. According to a Los Angles attorney,Paul Mones, 90% of all his defense cases, for children who had murdered their parents, were severely abused by their parents.(Heide) It is believed that the children killed their parents because they could not take the conditions at home. The children were psychologically abused by one or both parents. They often suffered physical, sexual, and verbal abuse as well. To them, their crimes were a desperate act to get out of a life that they could no longer handle. (Mones)
2) It is seldom that a mentally ill child commits murder. It usually occurs that the child's mental illness was known and treatment had been attempted. When the child commits murder it is because they have lost touch with humanity and are usually not convicted, but deemed mentally unfit to stand trial. (Mones)
3) There few children who kill without any remorse, but their parents are loving and kind. The child has a conduct disorder, seriously disrupted behavior, that continues for over 6 months. The child usually kills for a selfish reason, such as never having to ask for permission to go to a friend's house anymore.(Mones)

Serial Killers
Most of serial killers come from a dysfunctional home that is very unstable. 90 percent of serial killer are male and of those men most of them are abandoned by their fathers and are raised alone by their mother, who is usually unaffiliated with the well being of their child. Their families often have a history of alcohol abuse or criminal activity. All of these things contributed to the beginning of psychopathic tendencies and lead to murder. (Heide)
